Yameriga E-Block to Boarding school commences with Sod Cutting

A sod has been cut for the construction of boarding facilities to make the Yameriga E-Block in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region a boarding school instead of the original status as a day school.

The E-Block which is near completion since 2014 will reduce the burden of students in the district from traveling far distances for secondary education, when completed as a boarding school.

Among the E-Blocks started under the mills-Mahama administration in 2014, the Yameriga E-Block was started with speed of work but stalled after 2016 but work continued again around 2023 with a proposal to convert the E-Block into a college of education until the decision to add boarding facilities to make it a boarding senior High school was initiated by this current government.

Officially, a sod cutting ceremony was held to signal the commencement of the construction of dormitory blocks, dinning hall, staff bungalows and other boarding facilities.

The upper East Regional minister, the Talensi MP, the Talensi District Assembly, chiefs and people of Talensi were present to witness the commencement of the project.

The Upper East Regional minister Donatus Akamugri Atanga said, the conversion of the E-Block to a boarding School is a testament of the NDC government agenda for access to quality secondary school education.

“If you keenly listen to our father, the Yameriga Naba, he indicated that when a school is established, there is a need for it to grow and expand. And so, that is why he thinks that this school should continue to expand.
And he is happy to associate himself with the expansion vocation that we are here to give”, Donatus Akamugri Atanga said

He added “This school has been established by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and the late Professor Mills of the Blessed Memory. As an E-block, we expect that when there is a change in government, it shall continue and expand it, in the thinking of our father, the chief of this area. But unfortunately, it was stopped until NDC resurfaced. And once we have a good reason why we have sited this school here, we will have to continue. And that is the reason why the efforts of the Honorable Member of Parliament and the DCE, my good self, and the party leadership, we all have to put our shoulders to the task that there is a need for us to have this school be built in a befitting manner so that it can provide the needed facilities for academic exercise”.

The District Chief Executive for Talensi Millim Nabwomya said the project is about restoring confidence in the system and that thus will ease the burden of students.

“The recent agenda is about restoring confidence in our systems and investing deliberately in sectors that shaped the future with education being paramount. As a district, we are aligning ourselves with this vision. We are determined to ensure that every child in Talensi has access, not just to education, but to a quality and conducive learning environment”, noted.

“The Yameriga E-Block boarding facilities will significantly ease the burden on students, improve academic performance, and create a more equitable environment”, he added.

The Member of Parliament for Talensi, Duung Mahama who played crucial role in making the Yameriga E-Block to a boarding school reiterated the need for residents to help the contractor complete the work as scheduled and that more residents will benefit from the construction through jobs and trade.

In appreciation, the chief of Yameriga, Nab Kougbira-Maantihiig thanked the government, the DCE and the MP for such a wonderful effort in continuing with the school project and has assured government of his cooperation in supporting the project in any capacity under his limits.
