National Service and commitment at work place made me who I am- Director of Port to TEIN

 

The Director of port at the Tema port, Tebon Zumah has disclosed that, his experience and 22 years of dedicated service at the Ghana ports and Harbours Authority GPHA dated back when he was posted as a National service personnel has brought him this far as the director of Port at the Tema port.

Mr. Tebon Zumah made this known during the Upper East Regional TEIN and NDC youth conference at the Bolgatanga Nursing Training College bringing together all the eleven tertiary institutions for career development and leadership.

The TEIN members were mentored and encouraged to take their studies seriously and commit to hard work wherever they find themselves both government and private service.

The Director of port, Mr. Tebon Zumah who went through student political Unions and serving deligently as a national service personnel, took the students through leadership and career development and how to be successful as a young person in this modern economy where life is complex and needs dedication and sincerity.

“In the 22 years, I entered the ports without knowing the ports. In fact, I didn’t even know Tema when I was posted by the National Service Secretary to do my National Service over there. When I got in, I was asked who posted me there. I said, look, it’s National Service that posted me. Today, I am one person. If it is time for National Service, I will make sure that we have a lot that are genuine and objective. Because I recognized that if that opportunity was not there, there’s no way that I would have gotten the opportunity in Ghana Port and Harbour Authority”, Mr. Tebon Zumah stated.

Mr.Tebon Zumah said, since the establishment of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, there have been a lot of people from the north who have been in that position.

To further strengthen the level of commitment in the TEIN members to be successful after school, the director of Port, has encouraged them to work hard in school.

“So becoming the Director of ports, I noticed that there is one particular qualification.
You study hard, you become serious on the job, you deliver, and you belong to the right political party. I got appointed by His Excellency, our President, in April last year. Having served in Ghana Port and Harbour Authority for over 22 years.

He added, “leadership has never been about titles and positions. As an appointee of the President, I recognize that our duty is to use our positions to help as many people as possible”.

Mr. Tebon Zumah is very passionate about students career development and job creation respectively which he described as the focal point in every youth towards a better life after school.

“if you commit to hard work at school and at the job place, you will be able to get far. One other factor I want to share with you is that you have to be patient.I just told you that I did National Service with full commitment and hard work and it has paid off, for this reason, concentrate on the motives, missions and objectives of being at the work place or at school if you want to achieve more of what some of us have achieved” Mr. Tebon Zumah to TEIN members.
