There is high compliance of regulatory framework by producers of Sachet water in the Upper East Region as established by law under the ambit of the food and drugs authority and the standard authority.

Through the strict compliance, the FDA has recorded 99% of the Sachet water being safe for public consumption including laboratory services.
Sachet business which is fast growing among the food League of the public consumption, is part of the health indicators in Ghana and a very lucrative business providing more employment throughout the value chain.

There are a lot of health conditions that are directly related to water consumption and in order to be able to reassure the general public that the water consumed in the upper East Region and by extension, the nation, is safe especially for water that the FDA has accredited and given authorization, FDA has brought together all the producers of Sachet water in the region for training to further enlightened them on the need to produce safe water and meet standards as well as the ambiguity with respect to the operations of FDA against the Ghana standard Authority.

The Upper East Regional acting Director of FDA, Abel Ndego has expressed his gratitude to the national office of FDA for providing them the necessary logistics and support in performing their duties which has resulted in attaining the 99% of safe Sachet water in the region.
“When you equip people with the requisite knowledge and understanding of the dangers involving what to do and what not to do and they begin to implement it, it helps the regulatory framework and make things better and this is what we have adopted and also facilities visits has accounted for this because we are constantly in the facilities ensuring that they are compliant and non-compliant ones faces punitive measures”, he said.
The Upper East Regional Director of the Ghana standard Authority David Nnamwenege commended every food vendor especially the Sachet water producers in the region for meeting standards and regulatory framework but was quick to issue a stern warning to some Sachet water producers who are not certified to use the logo of authority or the law will catch up with them.
” The use of our logo is a concern in the sense that some people have registered with us, they are not certified to use our logo but are using it. So they should stop using it for us so that we can regularized their program of their production system so that at the end of the day, they will have a system for their production”
One of the Sachet water producers thanked the food and Drugs Authority and the Ghana standard Authority for reminding them of the responsibilities through the training program and they are assuring the two authorities of maintaining standards in their production line and sales activities.
