In an exclusive interview with Power Sports on Gumzang FM 90.1mhz, Coach of SHEAGA Golden Stars Michael B.B Yeli-ahig
(Coach Jah Bless) shared the inspiring story of the team’s journey to success. The club which was initially Formed by young boys from Sheaga who had passion for football as a community based team was officially registered for Division 3 in 2020 with help coming from passionate community members
“We contributed money to register, and with the support of our brothers, we made it happen,” Coach Jah Bless said.
The team’s determination paid off as they went unbeaten in that years division 3 league, qualifying for Division 2 and eventually the Middle League in their first season.
However, the coach highlighted challenges that almost derailed their progress.
“Lack of a proper playing pitch was a major issue, forcing us to play our MTN FA Cup match far away in Paga.” He indicated that they also played their division 2 league matches at the Technical center in winkongo which detached the supporters from the team because the could not afford the transport cost from Sheaga and it environs to the technical center to watch their matches.
Additionally, some players left the team for jobs at mining companies in the district , leaving the team struggling to field eleven players on match days. “We were relegated, and it was tough,” he admitted.
Despite these setbacks, SHEAGA Golden Stars is now topping the Bolga Municipal Division 3 league table, thanks to improved financial support. “We now have proper financial support, and players receive winning bonuses, which has made a huge difference,” Coach Jah Bless said, expressing gratitude to Dr. Christ Guuri who now the Bank roller of the club.
However, with renewed hope and support, SHEAGA Golden Stars is poised to make a mark in the league and return to the Upper East Regional Division two league.
In his closing remarks ,he appealed to the stakeholders in the district to do their best to get a good playing field (Astro Turf) in the district which will help to nature grassroot football in the district .He added that,even without good pitches ,Gbani Basic school conquered the entire upper East and represented the region in the National Milo games in the 2025 edition
