West Germany refused to
yield. They fought back, with Max Morlock scoring in the 10th minute to give them hope and end the first half 2-1 in favour of Hungary.

The second half was a masterclass in resilience. West Germany equalized through Helmut Rahn in the 18th minute, and the game was on. The Hungarians pushed hard, but the Germans held firm, thanks to their rock-solid defense and some inspired goalkeeping from Toni Turek.

The Decider arrived on the 84th minute arrived West Germany’s Helmut Rahn scored the winner, and the stadium erupted.
