AFRIMA 2025: Wendy Shay wins Best Female Artiste, Western Africa

Ghanaian musician Wendy Shay was named the Best Female Artiste, Western Africa at the 2025 All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, which took place in Lagos, Nigeria on January 11, 2026.

The awards ceremony, which was the culmination of the five-day event, was paired with business conferences.

Wendy Shay defeated contenders Tiwa Savage, Moliy, Ayra Starr, Amaarae, Josey, and others to win the prize.

In her acceptance speech, she said: “I want to say thank you to my Lord and Saviour, I want to say thank you to my fans, the Shay Gang, I want to say thank you to my partners. And I want to say thank you to my baby, Tracy Shay, for dancing to Too Late. It went viral because of her.”

In 2025, Wendy Shay’s song “Too Late” garnered her significant attention after going viral especially after a student Tracy Gyasi, also known as Tracy Shay, danced to it at a school event.Remove ads

Many music fans have identified the musician as one of the Ghanaian musicians who performed exceptionally well during the year under review.

All Africa Music Awards (also referred to as AFRIMA) is an annual awards event to reward and celebrate musical works, talents and creativity around the African continent while promoting the African cultural heritage. Its Pioneer Awards show was held in 2014.

The awards event was established by the International Committee AFRIMA, in collaboration with the African Union (AU).
