“Stop the Disruptions”: Digari Chief, Naab Ibrahim Boarebon (Kankapuuya Naa), Bars TAMCI from Mining Protest

Naab Ibrahim Boarebon, the Kankapuuya Naa (Chief of Digari), has issued a stern directive barring the Talensi Mining Communities Initiatives (TAMCI) from staging any demonstrations on Digari lands or its adjoining communities.

The Chief’s intervention comes in response to a letter from TAMCI outlining plans for a protest scheduled between May 8 and May 10, 2026, directed against Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited (CNML).

In a strongly worded press release, Naab Ibrahim Boarebon criticized TAMCI’s previous conduct, specifically referencing a demonstration held on August 30, 2025. He characterized that event as “substanceless,” noting that it lacked constructive engagement and instead focused on divisive demands. “Instead of presenting meaningful concerns, your group resorted to making divisive demands, including the unwarranted call for the dismissal of certain employees… as well as displaying disrespectful messages against revered traditional authorities,” the Chief stated.

The Chief highlighted that the host communities and CNML are currently at an “advanced stage” of negotiations regarding a Social Responsibility Agreement (SRA). According to Naab Boarebon, both parties have worked collaboratively to harmonize their positions and are on the verge of signing a deal that will benefit the entire area. He accused TAMCI of being a recurring obstacle to this progress, stating that the group’s activities over the past two years have consistently threatened to derail these vital negotiations.

Addressing the youth of the Talensi area, Naab Ibrahim Boarebon urged them to prioritize personal development and peace over civil unrest. He emphasized that employment is secured through the acquisition of relevant skills, not through hostility, no responsible company will hire individuals associated with disruptive or violent behavior.

He condemned TAMCI’s demand to fire non-indigenous employees, reminding the public that Ghana remains one united nation. The Chief raised an alarm regarding intelligence reports suggesting that TAMCI may be planning to mobilize “unidentified individuals” from outside the region to infiltrate the protest.

Calling on security agencies to act swiftly, Naab Boarebon warned that such infiltration could escalate social vices and disturb the peace of the affected communities at a time when the state is working hard to curb such issues.

Naab Ibrahim Boarebon concluded by reaffirming his commitment to the stability of the Talensi area, insisting that development can only thrive in an atmosphere of cooperation rather than conflict.
