Opinion :Why Most Female Artists in Talensi Choose Gospel Over Secular Music

During a recent discussion on the music scene on Gumzang 90.1 FM’s Entertainment Show, an interesting trend came to light — many female artists in Talensi are choosing gospel music, while only a few step into secular genres. This raises an important question: why is this happening?

On March 16th, 2026, we had the opportunity to interview two respected gospel ministers on the show — Minister Janet Tidan and Minister Ruth Onvomare. They shared insightful views on the issue.

According to them, several factors contribute to this trend.

To begin with, societal expectations and dressing play a significant role. Many parents are not comfortable with the image often associated with secular music. They feel that the style of dressing and public appearance in that space does not reflect the values they want their daughters to uphold. Because of this, they are more inclined to support gospel music, which is generally viewed as decent and respectable.

Secondly, there are concerns about negative influences. Some secular artists are perceived to live lifestyles that may not serve as good examples for young women. There is a growing fear that entering such an environment could expose girls to harmful behaviors, discouraging many from pursuing secular music.

Finally, the lack of proper management and support systems remains a major challenge. The ministers pointed out that many upcoming female artists face pressure in the industry. Without strong and professional guidance, some are pushed to compromise their values to succeed. Those who choose to stand firm often struggle to progress, making gospel music a more secure and supportive path.

In conclusion, the strong presence of gospel music among female artists in Talensi is no coincidence. It is deeply influenced by cultural values, parental guidance, and structural challenges within the music industry.

This leaves us with a key question:
Can the secular music industry be reshaped to become a safer, more respectful, and empowering space for young female artists?
